Spain risk breaking German law with Lamine Yamal in next game

Spain are at risk of breaking the law in Germany if they play Lamine Yamal on Monday night.

Spain have looked one of the more dangerous sides this summer at Euro 2024, partly down to their wonderkid on the wing, Yamal, who is just 16.

However, the Spanish FA could be set to break the law on Monday night if the Barcelona ace plays the full 90 minutes against Albania.

That is because under German law, those who are under the age of 18 are not allowed to work past 8pm.

According to BILD, via Cadena Cope, there are exceptions to the rule for athletes – who are allowed to play until 11pm.

However, that cut-off point does not come after the full-time whistle and is instead marked after time to shower and media duties.

With Spain set to take on Albania at 8pm on Monday night, it could be a tight turnaround if Yamal plays the entire 90 minutes.

La Roja have been told they could face a potential €30,000 fine (£25,350.69) if they break the law.

However, that depends on whether German authorities decide to act, which appears to be unlikely at this current time.

The law was put in place to prevent young people from being exploited in the workforce and to protect their safety and well-being.

Yamal has already proved he is a key player for Spain

Instead, Yamal has been the star of the show for Spain and already looks a key player under Luis de la Fuente.

Spain have already qualified from their group after beating Croatia 3-0 and Italy 1-0.

Yamal provided an assist in their opening match against the Croatians.

It comes after a brilliant campaign at Barcelona where he broke into the first team under Xavi to become a regular starter.

He missed just one LaLiga match, scoring five and assisting five, and already has nine caps for his country.
