Rangers director of football recruitment Nils Koppen has revealed that the Gers pulled out of signing Jose Cordoba because the player started doubting his move to Ibrox.

In the summer, Rangers were trying to add quality in their centre-back department and they were keen on signing Cordoba from Levski Sofia.

It was suggested that the Ibrox outfit had a deal in place with Levski Sofia, but the move failed to materialise and Cordoba joined Championship outfit Norwich City instead.

Koppen stated that Cordoba was present at Glasgow during a Rangers game but claimed that the centre-back was lacking the passion necessary to become a Gers player.

He revealed that the Rangers hierarchy decided against proceeding with the transfer as Cordoba started to doubt whether a move to the Gers was right for him.

"The player was here in Glasgow and attended a game, but we didn't really feel that passion to come and play for Rangers", Koppen told the Rangers Review.

"While there was an agreement in place, we decided that we can't have a player at Rangers who has already started to doubt if this is the best place for him before he's played a minute of football.

"It's unfortunate because of how much work goes into the process but at the end of the day, you need to ask are we comfortable with the situation?"

Rangers signed two new centre-backs in the summer in the form of Robin Propper from FC Twente and Clinton Nsiala from AC Milan.
