Rangers have been the subject of intense takeover speculation in recent weeks as a change of ownership is expected to take place.

The 49ers Enterprises-backed takeover at Ibrox appears to be progressing following widespread reports claiming a deal has now been agreed in principle.

The US consortium, which includes Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe and health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh, is looking to secure a majority takeover and wants control of the boardroom by buying at least 51 per cent of the club's shares.

Rangers Review reported on 12 March the key parties involved have received the first tranche of the legal paperwork required to complete the deal.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider the prospective owners are planning to get the deal done before the end of the season to allow them to complete some transfer business this summer.

Rangers have enjoyed an incredible past week after beating Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce on penalties to reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League and securing a 3-2 away victory over Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

However, they are still 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the table after enduring a disappointing campaign domestically.

49ers are completing Rangers due diligence

Borson revealed there is a timetable for the Rangers takeover as the due diligence process is currently ongoing.

He told Football Insider: "It’s not like it isn't happening, otherwise, I think somebody would have to say something if it wasn’t happening.

"Everybody seems to be aware that it’s happening.

"There is a timetable that they’re going through with the due diligence process.

"Clearly, what they’re trying to do is get the whole thing wrapped up close to the end of the season and bed it in over the summer such that the new owners can be in place to do some transfer business.

"That seems to be what they’re trying to do."

Rangers owners have bankrolled £5m+ injection

Football Insider revealed on 12 March Rangers have received a £5.3million injection from their current owners in the form of a new share issue.

It comes after Rangers' owners injected £3.6million into the club last month in a similar transaction.

Former chairman Dave King is currently the club's largest shareholder at 13 per cent, with various other stakeholders owning minority interests.
