Stefan Borson: Man City will be forced to give big name away on free transfer

Manchester City will likely be forced to let captain Kyle Walker go on a free transfer after he's made it clear he wants to leave the club this month.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Premier League champions would save around £15million on the England international's wages.
Pep Guardiola revealed on 11 January Walker has asked to leave the Etihad in January.
The 34-year-old, who is under contract until June 2026, has made 14 starts in his 18 appearances for Man City this season.
But the right-back hasn't been named in either of the past two squads after communicating his desire to leave, with AC Milan believed to be interested in securing his signature.
Kyle Walker could have to take pay cut to complete Man City exit
Borson revealed Walker would either have to take a big pay cut or Man City will have to let him leave for free due to his high wages.
"He's on probably the best part of £10million a year," Borson told Football Insider.
"I think he's got 18 months left on that.
"I think City are trying to get a fee, but it seems to me that they are going to be unlikely to be able to because, unless he's willing to move to Saudi Arabia and it seems unclear that he is, I think they are going to have to give him away for free.
"He is going to have to either take a very big pay cut, probably in half for the next 18 months, or City are going to have to effectively subsidise it by giving him a free transfer.
"But I think his level of performance this season is probably the key driving force for why he wants to leave.
"He's not been impressive and, therefore, while City probably don't want to lose him in this window, I don't think in the grand scheme of things they are going to be that disappointed because they will probably be okay with the £15million saving on wages."
