Rangers chief Patrick Stewart has the freedom to make "radical" changes at Ibrox as he looks to get the club moving forward again following the recent fan protest.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the new executive has an "amazing" opportunity to make a difference following the Scottish giants' issues on and off the pitch.

Stewart officially joined Rangers as chief executive last month after James Bisgrove made the move to the Saudi Pro League.

The new Ibrox chief left Man United at the end of last season after 18 years at Old Trafford, where he took on the interim CEO role following Richard Arnold's departure.

Rangers have endured a difficult season as they currently sit 13 points behind league leaders Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

A section of the Glasgow side's fans walked out of the game against St Johnstone on 11 January in protest against manager Philippe Clement and some of the board.

Rangers chief needs time to find out Ibrox problems

Borson insisted it will take some time for Stewart to find out the problems and what the opportunities are to rebuild at Ibrox.

He told Football Insider: "I see this in a similar way to where Patrick Stewart has just come from at Man United.

"These are great opportunities for new chief executives. He's come into a situation like Omar Berrada when he replaced him as CEO at Man United.

"From a relative perspective, it couldn't be any worse, so Patrick Stewart is going in with almost a blank piece of paper. He's got a problem on and off the pitch, and the fans think it's the worst it's ever been.

"But none of it is his making. He's the solution and not the problem. He can go at things in a radical way.

"It's an amazing opportunity for Patrick Stewart to come in and make a difference, and I'm sure he absolutely relishes that opportunity despite the protests and everything else.

"He's been in there for about a month, so people have got to give him a chance to make his mark. It's going to take time.

"If you go into an organisation that's got these sorts of issues, it will take him six months to get around the organisation, speak to people and find out what's going on in there, find out what the problems are and what the opportunities are to start to rebuild it."
