Arsenal are having a great season so far, remaining firmly in contention for the Premier League title, the Champions League and the Carabao Cup.

The Gunners will also be among the favourites to go all the way in the FA Cup as they get their campaign underway against Manchester United this month.

With the January transfer window now open, Arsenal are able to bring in reinforcements, though they must also be mindful of other clubs eyeing their players.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of strikers in recent months, as they still lack an out-and-out No. 9.

Interestingly, a centre-forward Arsenal sold for just £4million last summer is now closing in on a move to a Champions League rival, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Mika Biereth set for Monaco move just months after leaving Arsenal

Last summer, Arsenal sold Mika Biereth to Sturm Graz for £4million after impressing on loan at the Austrian club.

The 21-year-old registered nine goals and nine assists for Graz last term and is on 14 goals and five assists this season.

Romano has now taken to X to say AS Monaco and Biereth have agreed personal terms over a move to the Ligue 1 club and talks are underway with Graz.

Any potential switch will see Biereth join up with former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, who moved to the Ligue 1 side in August 2023.

The 23-year-old is currently out with a shoulder injury, however, which may explain why Monaco are now looking for a replacement.

How Arsenal could yet benefit from Biereth move

According to football.london, Arsenal included a ‘significant sell-on clause’ in the deal which saw Biereth join Graz.

This means the Gunners could be set for a windfall from Biereth’s potential Monaco switch, which could then be reinvested in the playing squad.

Biereth previously said a return to Arsenal would be “fantastic”, but the way things are going now, it’s looking likely that he would do so on the opposing side.
