Tottenham were one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window, with Spurs spending big on some impressive signings.

Dominic Solanke joined the north London side for a club-record fee as Tottenham also won the race for Archie Gray, with Lucas Bergvall also officially making the move to Spurs with a deal agreed earlier in the year for the Swedish wonderkid.

With Tottenham also clearing out a lot of deadwood with the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Emerson Royal and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ange Postegoclou’s squad looks to be in a healthier state than it was at the start of the summer, despite a mixed Premier League campaign so far.

And one player Tottenham almost signed this summer is now out for three months.

Tottenham target Santiago Gimenez out for three months with thigh injury

According to Feyenoord’s official website, Santiago Gimenez will be out for three months after suffering a thigh injury, with the news coming a few weeks after the striker missed out on a Premier League move to Nottingham Forest.

With Tottenham believed to be close to sign Gimenez in June, the Mexico international was seemingly viewed as a target for Spurs before Solanke appeared on the radar, a transfer that will take some months to determine if it was worth it.

Noted as a 'superstar’, Gimenez’s injury could have huge ramifications on the striker winning a long-awaited move to the Premier League in the January transfer window, where English clubs could be very active at the start of 2025.

Yet for Tottenham, the decision to not move for Gimenez has proven to be the correct one, especially with the striker now out until December, whereas Solanke has started off well in north London.

Gimenez could still win January move to the Premier League

Gimenez is one of the best strikers outside of Europe’s top-five leagues, with the 23-year-old attacker last season hitting 26 goals in all competitions having scored 23 the year before with Feyenoord.

And even with the forward out until December, there’s a good chance that Gimenez could win a move to the Premier League with many clubs in the division still in the market for an elite striker to lead the line.

Indeed, Gimenez’s injury is a blow, especially after a summer where Tottenham were interested in the Argentine-born forward, yet the youngster could still find himself in the Premier League in January if the January window allows it.
