West Ham United would be intending to provide Graham Potter with the best-possible squad by the end of the winter window to ensure he can resurrect their season.

Graham Potter will be disappointed by how his spell as Hammers boss begun after Aston Villa came back from a goal down to beat his side 2-1 in the FA Cup.

The former Chelsea boss will be aware that the West Ham job is set to be a challenging one for him as Julen Lopetegui left them in 14th place after he was relieved from his duties. There has been plenty of news that has emerged from the standpoint of incomings in relation to the Irons this month.

TBR Football recently revealed Marcus Rashford interests West Ham as his future at Manchester United becomes increasingly uncertain.

West Ham are scouting Reuben Livesey-Austin alongside Southampton as well, as confirmed by TBR Football as well.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on Edson Alvarez’s future at the London Stadium.

West Ham reject loan bid from AS Monaco for Edson Alvarez

In July, Julen Lopetegui lauded Alvarez’s form by stating that he was playing the best football of his career.

Signed for £35.4 million (Sky Sports) from Ajax in August 2023, Alvarez instantly impressed for West Ham and quickly adapted to the Premier League.

The Mexican international’s displays in claret and blue have impressed AS Monaco, who Fabrizio Romano has revealed made a bid to sign him on loan, which was turned down by Graham Potter’s side.

“AS Monaco have submitted initial bid for Edson Alvarez, loan proposal has been rejected by West Ham.”

“Talks continue as Monaco want Alvarez and can offer UCL [Champions League] football; but not easy as West Ham still consider the Mexican midfielder as important player.”

The 27-year-old’s contract runs out in 2028 and a move to the French giants or any other club for that matter would represent a prompt exit, even if he was sent out on loan.

Tim Steidten called Alvarez a “leader”, which highlights how quickly he turned heads as a West Ham player.

But then again, the prospect of Monaco offering Champions League football could be deemed as a threat for West Ham as they still view Alvarez as a key player.

Edson Alvarez should stay at West Ham and try to impress Graham Potter

At Brighton & Hove Albion, Graham Potter showcased his ability to transform a club.

It’s safe to say that this West Ham side have a far superior pool of talent in comparison to the Seagulls side Potter took charge of after Chris Hughton’s departure.

West Ham’s Alvarez is a quality midfielder, who Graham Potter could perhaps as his very own version of Yves Bissouma or Moises Caicedo at the base of midfield.

As for the former Ajax dynamo, if he rejected Monaco’s advances and stayed at West Ham, he could very well be a part of a side that could climb up the table under a gifted manager like the 49-year-old.

Under Graham Potter, West Ham will likely play a possession-dominant style of football.

Unlike under Julen Lopetegui where they surrendered the ball and waited to hit teams on the counter, a stylistic revolution looks like it could be on the cards for the Hammers under the Englishman.

The two-time Eredivisie winner will only improve as a player when playing in such a different system as well.

But Manchester United were interested in Alvarez as well and now that another top side like Monaco are keen to sign him on loan, whether he prioritises West Ham or is finally tempted away from East London will be interesting to see.
