'That's why': Micah Richards delivers verdict on Bukayo Saka's match-winning display for England

Micah Richards has now been sharing his praise for Bukayo Saka after the Arsenal winger rescued England against Switzerland on Saturday evening.

Thanks to Saka's strike, England will now already be preparing for a Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

Unlike both Spain and France, the other two members of the last four, Arsenal don't have a representative in the Dutch squad.

Jurrien Timber likely would be in Ronald Koeman's team were he fully fit, but otherwise Arsenal's last high-flying Dutchman since Dennis Bergkamp was Robin van Persie.

Of course, it's now already interesting to consider what role Saka will play against the Netherlands on Wednesday following his superb display as a right-wing back.

However, Gareth Southgate does deserve credit for keeping Saka on his favoured side, even if he had a little more defensive responsibility than he may have hoped for.

That being said, pundit Micah Richards has now shared his review of Saka's minutes on the 'Rest Is Football’ podcast.

Micah Richards amazed by Bukayo Saka’s ‘strength’ as a defender for England

Richards was delighted with Saka's display, one that demonstrated exactly why Southgate has so much trust in the 22-year-old.

And when speaking on the podcast with Gary Lineker, Richards was also blown away by the strength of Saka.

He shared: "Saka, whether he was going inside, whether he was going out, you know, he took his goal so well.

"I think we have seen so much for Arsenal this season. I think in terms of goalscoring, after Kane, I think Saka is the most important.

"He does make an impact. Not just what he does on the ball, it's his strength as well, and his defensive ability. I think that's why Southgate trusts him so much."

And with Luke Shaw possibly fit to face the Dutch in mid-week after his first minutes of the tournament, it seems that Arsenal’s Saka will continue as a right wing-back.

The 3-4-3 simply seems to suit Southgate's ideas so much better, allowing England to enjoy spells of dominance on the ball, which hasn't often been seen in Germany.

All that being said, Declan Rice has now sent a two-word message to a forward who's recently been linked with Arsenal.
