The Record are having a laugh with their Rodgers to Tottenham story. Its clear Celtic's dominance is really starting to scare the media

Well, the headline in the Record this afternoon is as hilarious as it is presumptuous. Gavin Berry has managed to predict that Ange Postecoglou will be gone from Tottenham before his side face the Ibrox side.

I believe he’ll find out soon enough that Ange Postecoglou is made of sterner stuff than that.

And while I personally believe Tottenham was the wrong move for Postecoglou, I also don’t think he’ll go down without a fight.

Granted, he’s adopted a bit of a siege mentality at the moment.

Sometimes its hard to know whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

But in Ange’s case I believe it’s a good thing, because we’re all aware of the strong mentality he has since his time with Celtic.

Somehow I think Ange Postecoglou will still be in charge at Tottenham when his side go to Ibrox, despite what Berry believes.

But what’s even more funny is the fact he’s running with the story Rodgers will be his replacement:

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou is odds-on to be sacked before Christmas – with his Celtic successor Brendan Rodgers favourite to replace him in north London!

The Aussie is coming under increasing pressure at Spurs after a shaky start to the season which included defeat to Arsenal in last week's derby and they scraped through in the EFL Cup with a late show against Championship outfit Coventry City. Postecoglou moved to the English Premier League outfit from Parkhead at the start of last season with Rodgers returning to the east end of Glasgow for a second stint at the Hoops in a controversial move.

Just because the bookies say its so, doesn’t mean its so.

But of course Berry would have to jump on the Tottenham story to create a bit of controversy.

The bookies create odds and favourites for management jobs to get people to bet.

It doesn’t mean they have insider knowledge on what’s going on behind the scenes at Tottenham.

So, lets look at this scenario logically.

Do we really think that Tottenham would sack the former Celtic manager, and then go and hire the current Celtic manager?

The whole reason the English media is giving Postecoglou a hard time is because they don’t respect his background.

In other words, they don’t respect what he achieved at Celtic before he arrived at Spurs.

Nor do they respect what he achieved prior to that.

For the English media, nothing outside the EPL means anything, or stands for anything.

That is simply the bubble they live in.

The EPL is the be all and end all.

Berry, of course, believes that because Rodgers has previous experience of the EPL, then that will ensure he’ll get the spurs job.

Here’s a simple question for Berry, if Brendan Rodgers was interested in managing a basket case club like Tottenham, then why didn’t he put his name forward for the job in 2023?

Why didn’t he enter the running when Spurs were showing interest in Postecoglou.

I recall at the time there was interest in him, and he was on the bookies favourites list as well for the job.

Didn’t amount to much then, did it?

So to further trash Berry’s beliefs that there’s any merit in this, let’s compare and contrast the two jobs.

It is crystal clear that Brendan Rodgers is now intent on building a lasting legacy at Celtic.

Add to that the fact he also stated clearly that he is committed to seeing out his contracted 3 years.

Here is what he said:

I’ve signed for three years and I guarantee I’ll be here for three years unless I get emptied before that, as they say up here.

His own words.

I think its safe to say that Brendan Rodgers isn’t in a position to be emptied right now, is he?

So then we have to presume he’ll see out his contract.

Because to do otherwise would result in him losing all credibility as a football manager.

And Rodgers has worked hard at rebuilding previously damaged relationships at Celtic.

So let’s compare and contrast the Celtic and Tottenham roles.

Spurs are currently in 13th position in the EPL.

Hypothetically speaking, if the club was to continue on it’s current trajectory, and Postecoglou got the sack, its safe to say their position in the league would not be good.

Any manager considering the role would be taking over a club unlikely to win anything.

This is, of course, all hypothetical, as I believe Postecoglou has the ability to turn things around, but let’s continue on the hypothetical course.

Let’s just say the Tottenham job comes available in December, and at that point, Celtic are close to qualifying for the next round of the Champions League as a result of a decent run in the competition.

Celtic are top of the league, and still in all domestic competitions.

Do we really think or imagine that Rodgers would decide to renege on his word regarding his contract?

Then do we really think he would leave Celtic, knowing there’s a strong chance of Champions League progression?

And finally, do we really think Rodgers would want to utterly trash his reputation with the Celtic support for a second time?

To go and take over a basket case club like Spurs, which would be floundering in the lower reaches of the EPL?

No?

I didn’t think so.

Which is why Gavin Berry is clutching at straws in desperation.

Desperation that Rodgers will leave, and give his favourite club some sliver of hope.

Its not going to happen.

And using your media platform in the hopes that it will is pathetic.

I’ll leave it at that.
