Manchester United fans would love to turn the clock back to the Sir Alex Ferguson days because they are a far cry from that once-dominant team.

From winning trophies to recruiting the top talents, Manchester United did it and had it all, as they were the example for all across Europe.

But after more than a decade since Alex Ferguson headed for the Old Trafford exit door, the team is the laughing stock of the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s job at Manchester United is hanging by a thread, with the style of play out of the window, a lack of leadership across the club and the recruitment as bad as it has ever been.

Once upon a time, whether it be big-name stars or gems from across the world, you could count on the 20-time champions of England to always pluck something from somewhere.

Looking back, from free transfers to bargain transfers, there are many who you can talk about who went on to become a huge success at the club.

One man, in particular, was discussed by Thierry Henry, as he was helping build a team for Nexon Icons Match.

Henry will be the manager of one team and Fabio Cannavaro the other, with the idea that the Arsenal legend only picks XI attacking players vs the Italian legend’s XI defenders.

From Luis Figo to Carlos Puyol, many are expected to participate, including one Park Ji-sung.

The former midfielder was signed for £4 million in 2005, where he went on to become a huge success, winning the Champions League and becoming the utility player for Alex Ferguson.

But Henry was sure to give the South Korean his flowers by stating that he ‘always did it in the big games’, as he told Shoot For Love.

Manchester United’s transfer recruitment in 2024

You have to question when was the last time Manchester United signed anyone of note because there aren’t many.

Lisandro Martinez has been a fan favourite since moving from Ajax in 2022, whilst Jonny Evans is proving that he still has it.

But, across the board, ten Hag doesn’t have much to shout about as his side face a huge week when domestic football returns this weekend.

Starting with Brentford on home soil, Manchester United will then travel to Turkey to take on Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the Europa League and you know that is going to be entertaining.
