Unai Emery’s Aston Villa put in a statement performance in their 2-1 victory against Manchester City.

While Manchester City managed to dominate much of the first half despite trailing 1-0, Aston Villa took complete control of proceedings in the second.

Goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers rendered Phil Foden’s late strike inconsequential at Villa Park.

Daniel Sturridge raves about Jhon Duran during Aston Villa vs Man City

Youri Tielemans hailed Duran as a striker who “can do anything” as he continues to have an incredible breakthrough season. Lucas Digne was buzzing after Duran’s contract extension was confirmed alongside Amadou Onana as he seems to be very highly rated at Villa.

As Duran opened the scoring for Aston Villa against Manchester City with a simple tap-in, Daniel Sturridge sang his praises on X.

“Jheez Jhon Duran again! He's a top finisher and a constant threat. Love watching him develop. 21 years young.”

On another day, the Colombian goalscorer could have scored a brace as he had the chance to put Aston Villa into the lead just second into the contest after Josko Gvardiol was dispossessed.

However, Duran took a shot from quite far out despite being one-v-one with Stefan Ortega and fluffed his lines.

Daniel Sturridge also lauded Rogers’ display, writing on X: “Morgan Rogers, best player on the pitch today. Baller!”

What Jhon Duran has done no other player has in Premier League history

Duran is having the season of his life, scoring seven Premier League goals for Aston Villa this campaign.

The 21-year-old has started just three league this season, which goes to show just how impactful he has been.

Duran averages a goal in the Premier League every 82 minutes, which is the best record of any player in the division’s history.

Such is the former Chicago Fire’s effectiveness in front of goal this season.

Duran is proving to be a tremendous coup for Aston Villa and it seems like he has upstaged Ollie Watkins as Aston Villa’s starting striker.
