"Too much talent" – Nuno Espírito Santo says Nottingham Forest player has 'incredible ambition', needs improvement

Murillo has been a regular for Nottingham Forest since joining them from Corinthians in August 2023, making 47 appearances so far.
The centre-back has been a key figure for the Reds this season as they currently have the second-best defensive record [10 goals conceded] behind Liverpool [conceded six].
His fine displays for Nottingham Forest helped him receive a first call up from Brazil for November’s international break. The 22-year-old was an unused substitute during the two games and is waiting to make his debut for the national team.
Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo has had a chat with ESPN in Brazil and he’s pleased with the defender’s first call up. The Portuguese remains confident the Reds star will be able to enjoy regular minutes for his country in the future.
“I’m very happy because I knew it was something Murillo really wanted, he really wants to represent Brazil, it’s one of the main goals of his career and he’s almost there. But thanks to the effort he’s made here since he arrived, his progress has been incredible,” he said.
“A lot of talent, a lot of talent. I’m suspicious because I’m very fond of him… a star. I’m sure that the time will come for him to play for the Brazil national team, but there are still many things to improve on. But the talent is there.”
The Premier League side’s manager has backed Murillo to have a bright future, if he were to further improve his game.
“It’s very close [the relationship]. He’s a player and a person with incredible ambition. He realises that it’s very difficult on your own, but with help all our talent comes to the fore,” Nuno Espírito Santo explained.
“I think the arrival of Nikola has helped a lot because the duo’s complicity fits, they’re characteristics that complement each other. Speaking individually about Murillo, too much talent, if it’s too much, can be detrimental. You need to find that balance and Murillo is finding it.”
On November 13th, we covered claims from Spain which stated both Barcelona and Real Madrid are looking at the South American who’s preparing to make a big leap.
These links could increase if Murillo were to continue to shine for Nottingham Forest.
