Tottenham Hotspur have been up and down all season long, but in recent weeks, one player has really stepped up.

Brennan Johnson has been in incredible form as of late, scoring six goals in his last six games for Tottenham.

The Wales international has seriously improved as of late, and this comes just after Johnson was a target of some serious scorn from his own fanbase.

Speaking on Premier League Productions, Glenn Murray has been discussing Johnson's recent transformation, and he says that people were simply too quick to judge the attacker.

Murray says that Johnson has always been a top quality player, but he just needed some time to settle at Spurs and find his confidence.

Brennan Johnson was judged too quickly

Murray went out to bat for Johnson, praising him for his ability and his persistence.

The pundit says that Johnson has rediscovered his confidence, and that people were way too quick to judge him when he was initially struggling at Spurs.

"Listen there's a reason they paid £45m for him. He's a top-quality player, sometimes when you move from around the corner from your parents, it's a huge change for a young man. It takes time to settle, he's playing with a different group, they don't know his attributes," Murray said.

"Confidence, sometimes if you hit rock bottom and think it's as bad as it can get and you go back to basics, he's started making those runs, that confidence, you rediscover yourself as a footballer, everyone needs confidence and sometimes we're a bit too quick to judge."

Ange Postecoglou always believed in Johnson

Johnson may have lost the faith of the fans, but Ange Postecoglou always believed in the attacker.

Indeed, heading into this season, it was reported that Postecoglou thought Johnson was set for a big campaign.

In fact, Alasdair Gold stated that Postecoglou thought Johnson could have a huge season, tipping him to contribute to 20 goals at least.

"Postecoglou's got big hopes for Brennan Johnson, he really feels like this second season is going to be a massive one for him. He's still only 23, 15 goal involvements last season and I think that's going to be well above 20 goal involvements, maybe even 25 or 30 I think he's going to have a terrific season."

Things started out shaky for Johnson, that's for sure, but over the past two months or so, the winger has hit new levels, and he could once again be the difference maker for Spurs against West Ham this weekend.

Tottenham seem to have uncovered a real gem here in the shape of Johnson.
