Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly closing in on their first permanent signing of the summer transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou's side have already moved to extend Timo Werner's loan switch to north London for another season.

Despite links to a host of players, Spurs were yet to step up their attempts to bolster Postecoglou's squad before today.

However, David Ornstein broke the news on Sunday that Tottenham are working on a deal to sign Archie Gray from Leeds United.

The 18-year-old previously looked set to join Brentford after having a medical with the Bees booked in.

But in what has been a surprising turn of events, Tottenham are trying to land the teenager and could have a deal wrapped up today.

Tottenham closing in on Archie Gray deal

It would appear that Spurs are hoping to complete the signing of Gray as quickly as possible.

That's according to The Mirror's David Anderson, who has shared an update on Gray's proposed switch to north London.

The journalist claims that Spurs look 'increasingly likely' to complete the signing of Gray today.

Gray signing would address two key areas for Tottenham

Gray racked up 52 appearances under Daniel Farke last season and was a standout player for Leeds in the Championship.

The 'superb' youngster mainly operated at right-back but is naturally a midfielder. His versatility would lend itself well to Postecoglou's style of football, meaning he could provide excellent cover for Pedro Porro, as well as in the middle of the park.

In his debut season in the first-team, Gray managed one goal and two assists in 44 Championship appearances.

Gray's form also kept Djed Spence out of Farke's side during the first half of the season before the Spurs loanee returned to north London ahead of schedule.
