Chelsea star Carney Chukwuemeka will leave Chelsea on loan this month amid growing interest from the likes of Aston Villa.

This is according to former Villa and Man United scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the midfielder must impress clubs if he wants to secure a permanent move.

Brown previously told Football Insider that a short-term loan move would be the perfect chance for Chukwuemeka to prove his worth to interested sides.

As a result, a return to Villa Park is considered unlikely during the January transfer window and is more likely to take place in the summer.

Villa have been keeping an eye on the 21-year-old’s progress since his move to Stamford Bridge, and are one of a number of clubs interested in making a move.

However, his lack of game time since joining Chelsea remains a concern as he has played just 130 minutes under Enzo Maresca, with just 32 senior appearances since 2022.

Football Insider revealed on 31 December that Villa are interested in a reunion, but Chelsea’s £40million asking price is likely to put clubs off of making a permanent move.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that clubs will need to be convinced to make a big-money move in the summer.

He won’t make a permanent move in January,” he told Football Insider.

“We spoke about this before, and I still maintain the most likely course of action for him will be to get a loan move somewhere he can go and play.

“When he was at Villa, he was being told by his agents he was better than he actually was, so he made the big move and it hasn’t worked out.

“Now, he’s got to take a step back and start over again, somewhere he’s going to play regular football.

“Then he’s got to prove firstly to himself, then the club he’s playing for and the sides he’s playing against that he can perform at the very top level.

“If he went back to Villa now, does he get in their side? I don’t think so.

“But if he spends 6 months impressing out on loan, he can prove he’s ready for that move.
