Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has taken to social media after his “short and sweet” loan spell at Crystal Palace came to an end.
The West London club exercised the right to recall Chalobah, 25, from Crystal Palace just six months into his time at the club.
Chelsea confirmed the decision in a statement on Wednesday, saying: "Chelsea has recalled defender Trevoh Chalobah from his loan spell at Premier League side Crystal Palace. The Academy graduate joined the Eagles on loan in August, featured 14 times under Oliver Glasner and scored three goals.”
Chalobah was recalled after both Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile picked up serious muscle injuries, with Fofana unlikely to feature again this season.
Enzo Maresca’s side made the decision just hours before Palace were set to play Leicester City, a game they won thanks to goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Marc Guehi.
Trevoh Chalobah makes Chelsea return as defensive injuries pile up
Chalobah was key for Palace in his six months at the club, starting all 14 of his appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals, and providing zero assists in his 1243 minutes of action.
The central defender took to Instagram after his return, saying: “It was short and sweet, but this club made such an impact on me so quickly.
“I was made to feel at home from day one, from the staff, teammates, community and you the supporters. The atmosphere at Selhurst was a vibe every single game. Thank you all!! Trev.”
Winless in their last five Premier League games, Chelsea have fallen out of the Champions League qualification spots after being as high as second before Christmas.
Maresca’s side will host relegation threatened Wolves in their next league fixture on Monday (January 20) with their title challenge in tatters.
