Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has taken to social media to celebrate their 2-1 FA Cup win over West Ham on Friday (January 10).

The 31-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Villa rained on Graham Potter’s parade, beating West Ham in the new manager’s first game at the helm.

Lucas Paqueta gave Unai Emery’s side an early scare, opening the scoring after just nine minutes with a cool finish past Robin Olsen.

Villa dominated from there on out but failed to score the equaliser until the 71st minute with Amadou Onana scoring after West Ham failed to clear their lines from a corner.

Morgan Rogers secured the win just five minutes later, capping off a fine run by Ollie Watkins and sending Villa into the fourth round of football’s oldest competitions.

Mings made his return from injury in the 2-1 League Cup defeat to Crystal Palace earlier in the season having missed over a year and 70 games after tearing his ACL back in August 2023.

The centre-back is now fit and firing at Villa, although Emery appears to be airing on the side of caution regarding the number of minutes he’s been given, starting six of his seven games across all competitions, and failing to provide a goal contribution in his 541 minutes of action.

He took to Instagram after the win over West Ham to celebrate, saying: “Special evening (from 71 mins onwards) for a special occasion. Into the hat.”

Villa are once again in contention for Champions League qualification at the end of the season, sitting in eighth, four points behind Chelsea in fourth.

Emery’s will face a new manager in their first game in charge for their second consecutive game, traveling to David Moyes' Everton in the Premier League on Wednesday (January 15).
