Arsenal got their Champions League campaign under way with a goalless draw away at Atalanta on Thursday night.

The Gunners delivered a solid performance against last season’s Europa League winners, though they seemingly played it safe and didn’t threaten much.

However, there was one particular moment from one Arsenal player that was absolutely world-class, prompting one TNT Sports pundit to say it was one of the best he had even seen.

Robbie Savage blown away by David Raya save for Arsenal against Atalanta

The player in question is David Raya, who pulled off a simply stunning double save in the 51st minute of the match in Bergamo.

The Arsenal keeper got down to beat away Mateo Retegui’s penalty and, though the Atalanta man reacted quickly to head the ball towards the net, Raya was equal to it.

It was a moment of class from the Gunners ace, and Robbie Savage did not hesitate to give him one of the highest praises that can be given to a professional footballer.

“I have got to say that is one of the best saves I have ever seen, the second one,” he said on TNT Sports, via BBC Sport.

“That is unbelievable! How he gets up so quickly.. Wow! One of the best saves I have ever seen!”

Savage went on to say: “It is a wonderful save from David Raya but Mateo Retegui has to score. Should Raya even have had the chance to save it?

“He headed the rebound back towards where the goalkeeper was. Yes he has to generate the power himself, and it was an outstanding save, but he has half the goal to aim at – a bad miss.”

Raya’s contribution proved vital as Arsenal secured a point in their first ever game in the revamped Champions League tournament.

Lightning strikes twice for Raya

Raya’s double save against Atalanta isn’t too dissimilar to the efforts he pulled off against Aston Villa.

In that game, Amadou Onana was teed up for a shot, which came off Gabriel and looped up in the air before hitting the bar.

Raya had committed to the first shot, leaving him on the ground as Watkins went for a diving header, but the Gunners stopper leapt up to thwart the England man's effort.

The Spaniard's save prompted plaudits aplenty, with Alan Shearer deeming it "unbelievable", while Gary Lineker called it "absolutely world-class".
