Tottenham Hotspur captain Heung-min Son is now playing into the final year of his contract with the club.

For around a decade now, Heung-min Son has been one of the main faces at Tottenham alongside the likes of Harry Kane.

However, his latest deal is now a matter of months away from coming to a conclusion despite the South Korean playing some of his best football.

Spurs have been fairly proactive in not allowing their top players to run into the final two years of their deals with the club.

But Son has now commented on his future in north London with the South Korean now less than a year away from potentially leaving on a free.

What Heung-min Son said about a new Tottenham contract

Over the years, Son has established himself in Tottenham’s history having become one of the club’s top goalscorers.

The South Korean has only been able to find the back of the net twice in the opening five games this season but he has also provided two assists.

Despite turning 32-years-old, the Spurs captain remains a hugely influential figure as he’s now created more chances from open play than any other player in the league.

Speaking on Wednesday ahead of the Europa League clash with Qarabag, Son has commented on the prospect on a new deal in north London.

“We haven’t talked about anything yet. It is very clear from me,” he told the media.

“I am very focused on this season. At this age every second is like a goal, especially this season we are in a lot of competitions, it feels like I am taking even more care on this.

“I am fully focused on this year and just want to win something that everyone at the club deserves. In the future you never know what will happen, but I will give everything for this club because it’s been 10 years and I give everything.”

Tottenham have Heung-min Son contract talks scheduled

Although Son has admitted no talks have taken place just yet, there is an expectation for the Lilywhites to open talks soon.

TBR Football understands Tottenham have talks planned with Son and his camp across the season as they look to tie him down to a new deal.

Son may well be turning 33 at the end of the season but the winger is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Managing Son’s workload could well be key to how the Korean is able to compete over the season and Thursday’s Europa League game offers Ange Postecoglou an interesting decision on whether to rest the Spurs legend.
