Liverpool lost their first game of the Arne Slot era this weekend as Nottingham Forest won 1-0 at Anfield.

The Reds were outfought and out-thought on Saturday as Forest came up with the goods.

Speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright has been dissecting this performance, and he says that Liverpool's tactics during this game shocked him.

The Reds tried to play slowly against Forest, and Wright found that strange as the Merseyside club have recently been defined by their speed, especially under Jurgen Klopp.

Ian Wright surprised by Liverpool's performance vs Nottingham Forest

Wright shared his verdict on the way Liverpool played during this defeat.

"The way Liverpool played was very strange to me to see in how slowly things were moving and how poor they were with their final balls in the final third," Wright said.

"I was very surprised because if you're trying to be patient and you're trying to suck teams in to pass quickly, we've seen Man City do it for years and you have to have patience with that."

Liverpool's first stumble under Arne Slot

Arne Slot has had a brilliant start to life as the manager of Liverpool, but now, he'll have to show what he's all about.

A defeat to Forest at home is a very poor result, and the Reds need to bounce back quickly and show that their early season form wasn't just a purple patch.

Liverpool certainly have the quality to get back on track quickly, but they need to play with much more confidence and much more decisively because it was a very lackadaisical performance against Forest, and their carelessness was punished.

Hopefully this defeat against Forest acts as a shot in the arm for Liverpool and they can kick on further under Slot as their Champions League campaign gets underway this week.
