Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk reacted to a message from teammate Luis Diaz with both players potentially leaving in the summer.

The Colombian winger has been a regular feature in Arne Slot’s team this season, but despite a hot start, Diaz’s performances have trailed off for Liverpool.

This drop-off in form has coincided with the Reds losing the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle, and being knocked out of the Champions League by PSG.

Barcelona have renewed their interest in Diaz, but Liverpool are keen to renew the Colombian’s contract, Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider exclusively.

Despite the exit rumours, the 28-year-old did not let it affect his performance while on international break.

Bayern Munich target Virgil van Dijk reacts to Luis Diaz

The winger is not the only Liverpool star linked with an exit from Anfield in the summer, as Bayern Munich have made contact with Van Dijk’s agent to sound out a potential switch, Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively.

Diaz featured in Colombia’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Brazil on Friday (21 March), and posted some images on Instagram after the game, captioned: “No fue el resultado esperado pero en nuestra casa buscaremos recuperarnos y sumar los 3 puntos. Nos vemos en el Metropolitano.”

Which translates to: “It wasn’t the result we expected, but at home we’ll look to bounce back and get the three points. See you at the Metropolitano.”

Van Dijk showed support for his teammate by liking the post.

Liverpool need to make Luis Diaz decision with contract expiring

Football Insider Verdict

Liverpool fans must surely be some of the best-versed in the world, when it comes to knowing the expiration dates of their players contracts.

Mohamed Salah, Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold are all just a few months shy of leaving for free, whilst Ibrahima Konate’s deal is set to expire in 2026.

Diaz is the next major name up, with his deal set to finish in 2027, leaving Liverpool in an awkward predicament.

At 28-years-old, the Colombian is at the peak of his powers, but handing him a new deal may take away the Reds’ chance to sell him at a high price in the future.

Selling him to Barcelona would net them a good fee, but then leaves them with the problem of replacing their versatile forward, which, whilst unpleasant for Reds fans, may be the best option.
