West Ham have been questioned for their latest failed bid for Aston Villa forward Jhon Duran, according to The Guardian.

Villa are said “livid” at the timing of the transfer bid from the East London club [The Guardian], and according to Jacob Steinberg “sources have questioned the seriousness” of the £57million transfer offer.

Duran signed a contract extension last October designed to keep the Colombian at the club until 2030 following an unsuccessful Hammers pursuit in the summer transfer window.

The Colombian has dominated headlines this January, as manager Unai Emery continues to prefer to use Duran in an “impact-sub” role, something that has become a concern for Villa fans.

With news that there will be a change in the recruitment structure at West Ham, following Graham Potter’s appointment, fans will be hoping to see a new striker arrive this January.

West Ham are without their talismanic forwards Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen after the pair suffered injuries, and Summer signing Niclas Fullkrug has struggled with for fitness this season.

This had led to the Hammers being desperate to sign a new striker, the East London club have Premier League strikers Rodrigo Muniz, Taiwo Awoniyi and Evan Ferguson on their radar as January targets.

The club have also looked at Emanuel Emegha, but the Strasbourg striker is not for sale, and his asking price is high this January.

The Irons have performed poorly this season, sitting 14th in the Premier League table, and have been outscored by 17th placed Wolves.

West Ham fans have directed fury at David Sullivan at the latest failed bid for Duran and it seems they are not alone in being sceptical.

In other news, West Ham could be set to sign a superstar from Barcelona in a surprising update.
