West Ham could sign Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto for £20million in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O'Rourke revealed that the Hammers are "desperate to bring in a new striker."
Injuries to Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen, and Niclas Fullkrug have desolated Graham Potter's attacking options, leaving the club needing to bring someone in this month.
The Hammers have been linked with Alberto throughout the past few transfer windows, but have been unable to complete the signing.
Alberto has been highly talked about for some time, and Southampton thought they had signed him last summer until the move collapsed at the eleventh hour.
Well-placed sources have told Football Insider the 23-year-old will cost around £20-25million in this window.
West Ham could be priced out of a move for Yuri Alberto
The price tag that has been set on Alberto could make this a complex transfer for the Irons to pull off from a financial perspective.
It is believed that the Premier League outfit would need to do some wheeling and dealing to try and get to the point where those finances would be available.
The Brazil international is under contract at Corinthians until 2027, putting the Brazilian club in a strong negotiating position.
West Ham have only scored 27 goals in 21 games so far in the Premier League this season, with only six teams scoring fewer goals.
The Hammers will be back in action on Saturday (18 January) against Crystal Palace.
