What Elon Musk once said about taking over Man United after Tesla CEO emerges as potential Liverpool buyer

Elon Musk has been credited with an interest in buying Liverpool from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) – by his own father.
During an interview with The Times, Errol Musk revealed: “I can't comment on that, they'll raise the price! Oh yes (he has expressed a desire) but that doesn't mean he's buying it.
“He would like to yes, obviously. Anybody would want to – so would I! His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives in Liverpool, and we were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool.”
The CEO of Tesla – who is currently the richest man on the planet – would obviously have the funds to buy Liverpool from FSG, who paid £300m for the Reds back in 2010.
However, this is not the first discussion about Musk buying a Premier League side, as he previously took to his own platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to discuss rumours involving himself and Manchester United.
Elon Musk previously said he was buying Manchester United
Back in August 2022, the 53-year-old caused Manchester United shares to soar on the New York Stock Exchange after posting that he would be buying the Red Devils.
Musk wrote: “Also, I'm buying Manchester United ur welcome.”

However, the man born in Pretoria, South Africa then revealed it was all a joke, clarifying: “No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I'm not buying any sports teams.”
Elon Musk net worth
As aforesaid, Musk could easily afford to buy a Premier League club.
At the time of writing, he is believed to have a net worth of £339bn.
Exploring Elon Musk’s relationship with LeBron James
If Musk does end up getting involved at Liverpool, who could lose Mohamed Salah, he will be closely involved with LeBron James – who owns a 2% share in the Reds.
The basketball legend has previously expressed his disagreement at Musk’s decision to remove verification ticks on official accounts, instead requesting people pay a subscription if they want the mark beside their name.
James wrote “Welp guess my blue (tick) will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain't paying the five” – adding a shrugging emoji to end his post.
The 40-year-old has also previously commented on a story claiming hate speech on X increased after Musk purchased the platform, writing: “I don’t know Elon Musk and, tbh (to be honest), I could care less who owns twitter. But I will say that if this is true, I hope he and his people take this very seriously because this is scary. So many damn unfit people saying hate speech is free speech.”
