Federico Chiesa has the chance to return to Italy with interest from Napoli but a big decision is now facing him after scoring his first goal for Liverpool.

Chiesa netted for the first time in Liverpool colours, scoring the team’s fourth goal in a 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.

The 27-year-old came off the bench to make just his tenth appearance for the season for Arne Slot’s team.

But with the January transfer window open, the Italian international may be keen to go in search of regular game time with the Serie A leaders monitoring him.

Federico Chiesa wants to finish the season at Liverpool

Gianluca Di Marzio claims that Federico Chiesa is keen to remain at Liverpool for the remainder of the season despite interest from Napoli.

The Italian club are assessing targets to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who is set to join Paris Saint Germain, despite some interest from the Reds.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Antonio Conte was keen on bringing the former Juventus winger to Naples, however, Di Marzio claims that is now looking less likely.

Di Marzio told Sky Sport: “Evaluations have begun for a replacement in the winger role. Federico Chiesa is moving away, as he would like to finish the season with Liverpool.”

It’s not a bad decision for Chiesa who could pick between staying with the Premier League leaders or moving to Serie A’s first-place team.

What Arne Slot said about Federico Chiesa vs Accrington Stanley

Arne Slot admitted it was great to have Chiesa back on the pitch against Accrington Stanley, but claims the winger needs to show more.

The Dutch manager insists he is not getting carried away about the Italian’s first goal for the club as it was against League Two opposition.

Slot told ITV Sport: “It is definitely a good first step, but as much as I liked the way Accrington Stanley played we have to take into consideration that we’re talking about League Two level.

“It is good to have him back on the pitch. He was a threat, but let’s not get carried away.”
