Now Arsenal have been able to get a deal over the line for Riccardo Calafiori, the attention has now focused in on another player.

Mikel Arteta will have been delighted when Arsenal were able to bring in Calafiori last month but the Gunners are still looking to add more over the coming weeks.

And there is not a huge amount of time remaining for the north London side until the new campaign starts with Wolves visiting the Emirates in less than two weeks.

Edu Gaspar has a little bit more time to work the market with the end of August marking the transfer deadline for the summer.

Arsenal are looking to make a deal happen with Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino with a bid said to be in the works.

Arsenal target Mikel Merino is back with Real Sociedad

Despite being heavily linked with a potential move to north London, Merino has now returned to training with Real Sociedad.

The Spain international has enjoyed a delayed break following his efforts in this summer’s Euros where he got his hands on the trophy.

Having landed back with Sociedad for pre-season training, the midfielder may not even need to unpack his suitcase with Arsenal showing such interest.

But it seems as if Merino is not a player who is agitating for the move to north London with one-year remaining on his current deal.

On Wednesday, Merino was involved in the player’s media day at Sociedad ahead of the new campaign.

This is the day in which the player’s put on their new strips for the upcoming campaign and pose for the cameras.

Although it is not uncommon for players who are being linked with a move away to be involved it does show Merino is not exactly agitating for a move.

The midfielder can be seen smiling as he wears the new Sociedad shirts which will not be what Arsenal fans want to see.

Mikel Merino to sign for Arsenal in coming days

Despite any concerns surrounding a potential move for the midfielder to north London, it is believe Arsenal will sign Merino over the coming days.

If Arsenal are able to the the Spaniard through the door, it will make for an interesting end to the window considering they could then put their focus on a new striker.

Despite having such a good 2023/24 goal record, Arsenal find themselves in the market for a new striker.

And there is a belief Victor Osimhen is on the radar at Arsenal as the Gunners eye a real top quality number nine to guide them to the title.
