Wolves have successfully avoided relegation from the Premier League after Saturday’s events, according to Kris Boyd.

Vitor Pereira joined Wolves in December, and was tasked with keeping the Midlands club in the Premier League after a miserable start to the season.

Things got off to an auspicious start for the Portuguese manager, as he stripped Mario Lemina of the Wolves captaincy, and then allowed the influential Gabonese midfielder to leave the club.

However, after a rocky start, Pereira seems to have created stability at the club, and a huge win against Southampton will likely guarantee another year of Premier League football.

Ipswich loss makes it a ‘good day’ for Wolves

With the win against Southampton, and Ipswich’s 4-2 loss to Nottingham Forest, Wolves are now nine points clear of the Tractor Boys.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, ex-Rangers striker, Boyd, spoke about just how awful Southampton were, before highlighting the implications of Wolves’ win, saying (5.55pm): “For me that’ll be Wolves safe as well. They’re sat nine point clear of Ipswich so they’ve done their job today.

“Just had to get the three points, Ipswich lose, it’s been a good day for Wolves.”

Pereira took charge at Wolves, following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Ipswich that saw a scuffle on the pitch, resulting in a ban for Matheus Cunha.

With the club sat 19th, and without their star player, all hope seemed lost, but the former former Porto manager has revitalised the club, and they now look safe for another season.

Whilst Pereira has done well at Wolves, the dismal form of the three teams below them has played a major factor in the club securing their safety, and there will need to be major improvements in the summer.

Matheus Cunha looks set to leave Wolves this summer.

Matheus Cunha will need replacing this summer ahead of potential Arsenal move

Football Insider Verdict

Cunha will definitely be sold by Wolves this summer, Peter O’Rourke told Football Insider exclusively.

The Brazilian forward has been one of the best players in the Premier League season, when he’s not getting into scraps with Ipswich staff members, or headbutting Milos Kerkez.

However, whilst his moments of madness have been difficult for Wolves to deal with, that same energy is likely what will keep them up this season.

Cunha has 13 goals in the Premier League this season, on top of his four assists, and looks destined for a move to a bigger club, with Arsenal heavily linked.

Wolves’ problem will be replacing the Brazilian this summer, the club are not a particularly attractive prospect for players on the move this summer, and may have difficulties find a like-for-like replacement.

Instead, Pereira’s side could look to move for a number of players with the Cunha cash, fleshing out what is a weak squad in terms of depth.
