"Working day after day" – Fulham player looking forward to 'great honour' as bonus for achievements

Fulham attacker Raúl Jiménez has told the Mexican media it will be a privilege to break Javier Hernández's English goalscoring record.

Jiménez is currently just two goals behind the former Manchester United forward in goals scored by a Mexican in the English top division.

Speaking to Tudn ahead of Mexico's clash with Honduras, the Fulham player was asked about closing in on Hernández's record. The 33-year-old said breaking the record would top off what he's achieved since arriving in English football and that it will give him great pride once he achieves it.

“It would be a great pride for me, I hope as soon as possible to break the record to help the team climb positions. It would be a great pride to become that person, that player with the most goals in the Premier League, it is the fruit of all the work of these years in England,” said the Mexican.

The centre forward went on to say he's had to fight hard to get what he's achieved in the game and even before he arrived in England he was trying to make it in Spain with Atletico Madrid.

"Working day by day, fighting to be here, is not easy at all. First at the beginning I was young, leaving my family, my first experience living alone, arriving at a team where I did not have the continuity I would have liked, never giving up, moving forward, looking for other options, with offers from other places,” said the Fulham star.

Initially arriving at Wolves on loan during the 2018/19 season, Jiménez scored 40 goals for the west Midlands side before his move to Fulham in 2023.

Since joining the London he's scored 12 goals… leaving him just short of Hernández's record.
