Manchester City’s dismal form continued as they were held at home by struggling Everton but Michael Owen has been left shocked by what he heard coming from The Etihad.

Pep Guardiola is now firmly entrenched in his worst ever run as manager and if he wasn’t who he was with the success he brings, then there’d be some calls for him to lose his job if he was elsewhere.

Of course, after signing a new deal, Guardiola won’t be going anywhere and he simply needs to rebuild this City team and go again next season with fresh impetus.

However, for City fans, this is unchartered territory under Pep and for some City fans, an experience they’ve never endured.

Indeed, the atmosphere at The Etihad is hardly inspiring at the moment and after hearing the reaction at full-time, Michael Owen has questioned the supporters.

Michael Owen criticises Man City fans who booed after Everton draw

While booing in football is nothing new, it is new when it comes to doing it to a team who have just won four Premier League titles on the spin.

Nevertheless, the boos did ring out around The Etihad yesterday and over on social media, former Man United and Liverpool striker Michael Owen admitted he was shocked as he questioned the support.

How can Man City rebuild under Pep Guardiola?

As with any team looking to rebuild and go through a transition period, the answer lies in spending money to bring new players in.

City are looking at Jonathan David as a potential option, while there are suggestions City could look at Martin Zubimendi could be looked at to fill the big hole left by Rodri’s injury.

Obviously, City need something new and some fresh blood who are hungry for success.

All the best teams come to the end of their cycles and the key now is to get the right talent and characters in the building to go again in the 2025 season.
