Juventus' first showing of 2025 looked like a lot of the ones from the final few weeks of 2024, with Thiago Motta's squad falling to AC Milan in the semifinals of the new-look Italian Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

It certainly was an interesting start to the weekend for Thiago Motta and Juventus.

Rather than playing for their first trophy of the 2024-25 season, Juve are back in Turin following a few days in Saudi Arabia, and rather than playing in the Italian Sup Cup final they will be watching it from their respective homes as both sides of Milan try and get their first piece of hardware in 2025.

It's a situation that came about because of Juventus' 2-1 loss to AC Milan in the semifinals of the new-look Supercoppa format. Said situation involved the same kind of mistakes and inability to close out the opponent that has hampered Juventus for weeks, if not longer than that, before the Supercoppa loss, the Bianconeri's second in all competitions this season.

But with all the inconsistencies that have happened in the first half of the season, it's another example on a long list of disappointing performances regardless of feelings about the Supercoppa.

On Episode 266 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we dicuss:

  • Takeaways from Juventus' loss to AC Milan in the semifinals of the new-look Italian Super Cup.
  • What's up with Dusan Vlahovic after another disappointing performance.
  • Juventus weren't able to close out another game. What's the deal?
  • Thiago Motta didn't have great things to say about his team's mentality and character in the wake of Juventus blowing a lead against Milan. That's not good, right?
  • Social media questions — including if it's time to consider a Dusan Vlahovic sale, confidence in Juventus getting wins compared to last season, what a midterm grade for Cristiano Giuntoli might be, what is the reasoning for all of the individual errors and where Juventus goes from here.
