3 managers Crawley Town must target after Rob Elliot sacking

03/20/2025 04:53 AM
Crawley Townannounced the decision to sack Rob Elliot yesterday evening despite only being appointed back in October.
Crawley Town have had a poor season and looks set to return to League Two at the first time of asking.
Town were expected to struggle but set to be the only one of four promoted sides to drop back down to the fourth tier.
The Red Devils brought Rob Elliot in after he impressed at Gateshead but he has failed to make the desired impact. This has left Crawley Town in 22nd place and 12 points adrift of safety.
Now, despite him only taking charge of 33 games at the club, Elliot has been relieved of his duties. His assistants Louis Storey and Anthony Sweeney will take charge in the interim.
With relegation to League Two nearly set in stone, Crawley Town will be looking for a real fresh start with their new boss. Here, we put forward three the club should target…
Jon Brady
After managing Northampton Town for 200 games, Brady departed 18 matches into the current season. The Cobblers were sitting 21st in League One.
Although his tenure ended with the club in a challenging position, Brady’s time at Northampton was largely successful. Despite being relegated from League One in his first season, he earned the admiration of the fans.
He then guided them to promotion in the 2022/23 season, finishing 3rd and securing their return to League One. With relegation looking likely, Brady could be a great option for Crawley Town as they look to rebuild.
Darrell Clarke
Clarke himself needs a fresh start after losing his job at Barnsley. His sacking was harsh, however it was the best decision for both parties.
Clarke is a very experienced EFL coach who was promoted from League Two with Port Vale in his last season at League Two level.
If Clarke would be willing to jump straight into another job, he could be an excellent option for Crawley Town.
Michael Appleton
Appleton has been out of work since being sacked by Charlton Atheltic during the 2023/24 season. Prior to that, he worked wonders with Lincoln City and took them to the League One play-off final.
The last time he coached in League Two, he was the man who got Oxford United promoted to League One.
If Crawley Town make their move, they will hope he can replicate that and help with the club’s rebuild.
