Charlton Athletic are back in League One action on Saturday with a home clash against Blackpool at The Valley.

Charlton Athletic have made an impressive start to the new season under the guidance of Nathan Jones. They have only lost once and are sat in 3rd place in the table behind big-spending Wrexham and Birmingham City.

The Addicks are quietly going about their business at the moment and are playing well. They won 1-0 away at Shrewsbury Town last weekend in their last league outing with striker Gassan Ahadme on the scoresheet for the first time.

He joined the London club over the summer from Premier League new boys Ipswich Town. He was one a host of new faces at The Valley along with the likes of Will Mannion, Luke Berry, Greg Docherty and Matt Godden, among others.

Blackpool sacked Neil Critchley after a poor run of form and have since replaced him with the experienced Steve Bruce. The former Sunderland, Hull City and Newcastle United man won his first match at the helm last Saturday at home to Exeter City with defender James Husband scoring a late winner.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Harry Mail

Charlton Athletic have been decent so far this season and are built on strong foundations at the back.

“Nathan Jones knows what he is doing at this level and I expect the Addicks to be up there come the end of the season. They have strength in depth and are finding ways to win games at the moment.

Blackpool will hope that they have the new manager bounce. Steve Bruce made an impact against Exeter City but they lost at home to Sheffield Wednesday last time out in the Carabao Cup.

“This could potentially be a tricky game for the hosts following the arrival of Bruce but I can see them getting the job done in the end.”

Prediction: Charlton Athletic 2-1 Blackpool

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

James Ray

Charlton Athletic squeaked past Shrewsbury Town last time out to get back to winning ways. As expected, they’re proving a very tough side to beat under Nathan Jones, and Blackpool could find trouble this weekend.

“It’s not been a bad start to the Bruce tenure and he’ll be out to claim another League One win here. The Valley is a very tough place to go though, and I think the hosts have a clear advantage in terms of sheer quality.

“That has been shining through in tricky moments for the Addicks, and I think that will be the case again here. It could be a tough game, but I’ll back the hosts to win.”

Prediction: Charlton Athletic 2-1 Blackpool
