Wrexham and Stockport County clash in League One this weekend in a clash between two impressing newly-promoted sides.

Wrexham make the journey to Stockport County looking to make the most of the chance to move back into the League One automatic promotion spots, even if it’s only for the time being.

The Red Dragons sit 2nd after an impressive start to life in the third-tier. They’re one point off 2nd placed Birmingham City, who they have played a game more than, and four behind current leaders Wycombe Wanderers.

Phil Parkinson’s side come into this one off the back of the back of another newly-promoted side in Mansfield Town. However, they have won just one of their last five on the road.

As for Stockport County, they’ve not found quite as much success as Wrexham since rising from League Two but they still sit in a strong position at this early stage.

The Hatters have played at least one more game than all the teams around them, but they sit 6th in the table, just inside the play-off spots. Form has been patchy of late, with Dave Challinor’s side losing 5-0 to leaders Wycombe before producing a 5-0 thrashing of their own against Bolton Wanderers.

Dave Challinor will be hoping that marks the start of a new unbeaten streak after a struggle for consistency.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“The promoted sides from League Two have found real success upon their rise to League One, so this meeting between Stockport County and Wrexham is going to be the one to watch this weekend with so many teams out of action.

“The Hatters have been unable to get a streak of any sorts going in recent weeks. The big loss to Wycombe was followed by a remarkable response against Bolton Wanderers, so who knows what sort of performance they’ll put in here.

Wrexham have been steady and tough to beat, but as has been a continued problem for them, form on the road has been harder to come by.

“Edgeley Park is a tough place to go, but I think the visitors will get something. I’ll say this ends level.”
