'His price has gone up' – League One chief sends transfer warning after Sheffield United's summer striker interest

Sheffield United eyed Ricky-Jade Jones in the summer and Peterborough United chief Darragh MacAnthony has said‘his price has gone up’ since.
Sheffield United were an active club in the summer transfer window, bringing in a host of new faces to rebuild the ranks after a number of notable departures.
The Blades had eyes on League One side Peterborough United in their search for new stars and ended up recruiting Harrison Burrows, who has become their starting left-back after a stunning 2023/24 for his hometown club.
Burrows wasn’t the only Posh star on the radar at Bramall Lane though. Sheffield United were heavily linked with a move for striker Ricky-Jade Jones, but a move never came to fruition.
Now, Peterborough United chairman and co-owner Darragh MacAnthony has dropped a big hint over the Yorkshire club’s summer pursuit while issuing a warning over a future deal.
As quoted by the Peterborough Telegraph, MacAnthony said that an unnamed club that saw a takeover deadline missed agreed to sign Jones. Since then, ‘his price has gone up’, the Posh chief says, and he could go for a decent fee despite his contract situation.
Speaking on Sheffield United summer target Jones, he said:
“It’s lift off time for Ricky.
“Ricky has added regular goals to his game and he will be a striker everyone wants to buy in January.
“A club agreed to buy him in the summer, but their takeover didn’t go through on time and now his price has gone up. Ricky could go for even more than Kwame (Poku, another out of contract player) as he’s been with us since he was seven.”
