The winning streak continues!

Chelsea Women's opponents today, Celtic, failed to score a single goal against our two other group stage contenders in Real Madrid and Twente. But the Blues' win against these teams wasn't that convincing on the defensive side, highlighting an issue that previous manager Emma Hayes couldn't solve during her heydays at helm.

Even with a heavily rotated starting eleven featuring several players who rarely see the pitch week in and out, the Blues still managed to dominate the home team at Celtic Park. However things were not really clicking upfront, and the hosts were feeling increasingly lucky with their attempts at breaking into a counter-attack.

So much they tried, that they finally got it. They bypassed midfield and our defence to open the scoring via Murphy Agnew, in a play that would enrage any fanbase.

Luckily for us and Sonia Bompastor herself, Chelsea have more than enough talent to make up for these mistakes with goals against the opposition. Six minutes after the opener, Maika Hamano showed how that's the case.

Chelsea persisted as they didn't want to end this first half with anything but a lead. In her third attempt at goal, Ashley Lawrence got herself in the scoreline and completed the comeback for the Blues.

Given our Champions League experience thus far, a one-goal lead was not enough to keep ourselves calm and collected. The team themselves knew this and kept pushing for more goals, while Celtic did threaten Zecira Musovic's goal every now and then. In spite of several close shaves on our side, we couldn't really breach Kelsey Daugherty for a third time and had to settle for the 2-1 victory.

Carefree!

  • Only seven players on our bench today.
  • Maelys Mpomé gets her first ever start as a Chelsea player.
  • Speaking of Mpomé, she didn't cover herself in glory in the play that lead to Celtic's opening goal.
  • Not many conclusions to take from today given how different the starting lineup is from the regular one in the Women's Super League. Giving up that goal was really annoying, but it wasn't the end of the world.
  • Next up: Manchester City at home in the WSL.
  • KTBFFH!
