Birmingham City defender Lee Buchanan could be poised for his return after the international break, as detailed in a report by BirminghamLive.

Birmingham City have been without the left-back so far this season due to a calf injury. He hasn’t featured at all yet this season.

Buchanan, 23, isn’t too far off playing for the Blues again though but is still on the road to recovery.

In this latest update regarding his condition by BirminghamLive, the player is ‘working’ his way back to full fitness after three months out. The international break has come at the ideal time for him as he looks to get back to full speed.

Birmingham City drew 1-1 at home to Northampton Town last time out and conceded a late equaliser when Mitch Pinnock struck in added-on time. They are now sat in 2nd in the League One table behind Wycombe Wanderers and are back in action on 23rd November with an away trip to Shrewsbury Town.

Buchanan made the move to Birmingham City in July 2023 and penned a long-term five-year contract running until June 2028. He made 35 appearances for the Midlands outfit in all competitions in the last campaign, 32 of which came in the league, as they were relegated from the Championship.

Getting him back would be a big boost for the Blues and he would give them another option to pick from at the back.

The defender rose up through the academy ranks at Derby County and was a regular for the Rams at various different youth levels before breaking into their first-team.

Buchanan went on to play 75 matches as a youngster at Pride Park before he was lured away by Werder Bremen.

The ex-England youth international spent 12 months in Germany and played 24 matches during his time abroad, 21 of which were in the Bundesliga.

Birmingham City then lured him back home to England and it turned out to be a disappointing first year for him with the Blues as they dropped down in League One. They finished in the bottom three along with Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United.

What now?

Buchanan will face a battle to get into Davies’ starting XI ahead of Alex Cochrane.

The Blues will want to return to winning ways against Shrewsbury Town as they look to overtake Wycombe Wanderers. They are two points behind with a game in-hand.
