Blackpool still have free agent midfielder Josh Onomah on trial with the club, according to the Blackpool Gazette.

Blackpool had a poor start to the season after an underwhelming 2023/24 campaign and decided to opt for an early change in the dugout.

Neil Critchley was relieved of his duties at Bloomfield Road and recently retired centre-back Richard Keogh took the reins on the interim. However, it wasn’t long before a permanent heir was named, with Steve Bruce returning to the game with the Tangerines.

He oversaw his first game at the weekend and emerged triumphant late on. Bruce’s side beat Gary Caldwell’s Exeter City 2-1 in League One to start the new era off on a high note.

The downside of the timing of Bruce’s arrival is that he had no chance to make an impact in the transfer window, but it seems Blackpool are still open to the possibility of a free agent addition.

The Blackpool Gazette states that midfielder Josh Onomah, who first arrived at Squires Gate over a month ago for a trial, is still with the League One club. He came in while Critchley was at the helm and has remained despite the changes in the dugout.

Onomah, who was released by Preston North End in 2023, previously worked with new boss Bruce at Aston Villa.
