Carlisle United striker Luke Armstrong has emerged on the radar of Barrow and Fleetwood Town, according to a report by Football League World.
Carlisle United have a decision to make regarding the future of the player this winter. CUFC have until the end of the January transfer window to conclude any incoming or outgoing bits of business.
Armstrong, 28, joined the Cumbrians back in 2023 and he has since scored six goals in 45 games in all competitions, three of which have come in League Two this season. He is under contract at Brunton Park until the summer of 2027.
In this latest update regarding his situation this month by Football League World, fellow fourth tier clubs Barrow and Fleetwood Town are interested in signing him before the deadline. Scottish Premiership pair Kilmarnock and Motherwell have also been mentioned as potential suitors.
Carlisle United are bottom of the table and face a battle to preserve their Football League status.
Carlisle United striker Luke Armstrong eyed by Barrow and Fleetwood Town
Barrow and Fleetwood Town could both see Armstrong as someone to bolster their striking department.
Carlisle United signed him when they were in League One to add more competition and depth up top.
He was left out by the Cumbrians for their last match against Bradford City. Their boss Mike Williamson said, as per the News & Star: “It was just a mutual conversation about [the fact] there are things happening, possibilities for him.
“I just thought he thought the risk of coming in and playing, getting on the pitch and getting injured, would scupper it.
“So it was more of a mutual agreement that something’s on the horizon, [although] not happened yet.
“He’s someone who I’m happy to keep around, but he obviously wants as much game time as he possibly can and with us bringing in two number nines [Cedwyn Scott and Joe Hugill], he feels as though he’s not going to get that.”
Prior to joining Carlisle United, Armstrong played for Harrogate Town and was a hit during his days in Yorkshire.
He scored 31 goals in 116 games and saw a transfer to Wrexham fall through back in September 2023, as per BBC Sport.
The Durham-born man has also had spells in the past at Middlesbrough, Birmingham City, Cowdenbeath, Gateshead, Accrington Stanley, Salford City and Hartlepool United.
What now for Luke Armstrong at Carlisle United?
Carlisle United may well cut ties with Armstrong amid attention from Barrow and Fleetwood Town, as well as Kilmarnock and Motherwell.
Williamson’s men are back in action this weekend as they look to hit some form.
