Wrexham host fellow League Two promotion winners Crawley Town on Saturday afternoon as League One slowly begins to take shape.

Wrexham have enjoyed a promising start to their third tier campaign and currently occupy top spot in the table after their opening six fixtures.

They faced tough opposition last time out, however, as Birmingham City beat them 3-1 to put a halt to their unbeaten run despite Jack Marriott’s early opener for the Red Dragons.

Phil Parkinson’s side have the perfect opportunity to bounce back this weekend and will certainly fancy their chances back on home soil, though it will be easier said than done.

Crawley Town have been somewhat of a surprise package so far this season. Of course, it is still very early days, though not many would have expected the Red Devils to be sitting 13th in the table at this stage.

Led by Scott Lindsey, the West Sussex outfit have picked up seven points so far and drew their last fixture 1-1 with another fellow League Two promotion winner in Stockport County.

Having initially found themselves behind in the early stages, Crawley equalised from the penalty spot through Junior Quitirna to gain a good point against a strong Hatters outfit and will take confidence from their performance into the Wrexham clash.

Here, a handful of our writers make their prediction for the game…

Jacob Hackett

Crawley Town have taken a few sides by surprise already this season, but the challenge posed by Wrexham may be the toughest they have faced yet.

“At this point, it would not be totally surprising to see Lindsey’s men walk away with a result. Having said that, it is usually hard to predict anything besides a victory for the Red Dragons at the Racecourse Ground.

“It will be intriguing to see how Parkinson’s side respond from their defeat to Birmingham, though the quality their squad possesses will likely shine through once again this weekend.

“I can see plenty of goals in this encounter, and whilst I think the visitors will put up a valiant effort, it is Wrexham who I am backing to take the spoils.”

Prediction: Wrexham 4-2 Crawley Town

James Ray

“With Wrexham heading back to home turf, they should be confident of a perfect response after being beaten by Birmingham City.

“Many have put the Red Dragons and the Blues in a similar category but they’re far apart, and that showed in the end on Monday night. This is a game Parkinson’s side should be winning though, despite Crawley Town’s solid start to the season.

“They’re a really well-coached team under Scott Lindsey but I do question their firepower bit, and against Wrexham, that could be their downfall.

“I’ll go for a 2-0 home win.”

Prediction: Wrexham 2-0 Crawley Town
