Sheffield Wednesday are back in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday evening with an away trip to Bloomfield Road to take on Blackpool.

Sheffield Wednesday have seen off Hull City and Grimsby Town in the competition already as they now look to progress into the fourth round. They drew 1-1 at home to QPR in the Championship in their last outing and were dealt a blow after conceding late on.

The Owls won on the opening day of the new season 4-0 against Plymouth Argyle but have yet to win since then. They could do with getting some confidence back with a victory at Blackpool.

The Tangerines have recently turned to Steve Bruce as their new manager in a surprise move following their decision to cut ties with Neil Critchley. He won his first match in charge 2-1 over the weekend against Exeter City with defender James Husband scoring a late winner.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

Sheffield Wednesday team news

As per The Star, midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah is out of action for Sheffield Wednesday due to injury at the moment, as is goalkeeper Ben Hamer.

There are also doubts over whether right-back Yan Valery will be back for this one.

Predicted XI

Charles; Valentin, Bernard, Famewo, Johnson; Paterson, Ingelsson, Fusire, Gassama; McNeill, Smith

James Beadle is Sheffield Wednesday’s number one following his return from Brighton and Hove Albion on loan. However, with Hamer still sidelined, this game against Blackpool is an opportunity for Pierce Charles to get some more minutes under his belt.

Pol Valentin could come back into the team to get some more minutes under his belt. He faces competition for his place from Valery and Liam Palmer and will be eager to make an impact if he plays against the Tangerines.

In the heart of the backline, Di’Shon Bernard and Akin Famewo may get the nod, with Marvin Johnson on the left flank of defence getting up and down.

Svante Ingelsson was left on the bench against QPR and this match is an ideal opportunity for him to start and show more of what he can do. He made the switch to England a couple of months ago from Hansa Rostock in Germany and looked good in their first few games.

Callum Paterson remains at Hillsborough and injects experience into the Owls’ ranks. As for Sean Fusire, he looks to be a bright young prospect and started against both Hull City and Grimsby Town in the two earlier rounds so is likely to do the same against Blackpool.

Like Ingelsson, Djeidi Gassama didn’t feature against the Hoops last Saturday so may feel he has a point to prove.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Charlie McNeill and Michael Smith lead the line for Sheffield Wednesday.
