Crewe Alexandra boss Lee Bell is poised to stay amid interest from Burton Albion, according to reporter Pete O’Rourke on X.
Crewe Alexandra’s manager has emerged on the radar of the League One side as they continue their search for a replacement for Mark Robinson.
Bell, 41, had three separate spells at Burton Albion as a player and has been linked with a return to the Pirelli Stadium.
However, in this latest update regarding his future, journalist O’Rourke has reported on X that he is ‘set’ to remain in Cheshire after ‘talks’ with the Brewers which is a boost for his current club.
Crewe Alexandra are currently sat in 3rd place in the League Two table behind Walsall and Port Vale as they eye promotion to the third tier. They have had an impressive season so far and won 2-0 away at Grimsby Town over the weekend after goals by Jack Lankester and Joel Tabiner.
Burton Albion snubbed by Crewe Alexandra boss
Burton Albion are facing a battle for survival and could have seen Bell as someone to lift them out of the drop zone.
They are 23rd and are in the bottom four along with Crawley Town, Cambridge United and Shrewsbury Town.
The Brewers have won only two of their 19 fixtures in this campaign to date and are nine points from safety.
Crewe Alexandra turned to Bell back in November 2022 and he has done a steady job to date.
He guided them to the play-off final last term but they were beaten by Crawley Town at Wembley.
The Alsager-born man rose up through their academy ranks as a youngster and had two loan spells away at Burton Albion during his early playing days.
Bell then had spells at Mansfield Town and Macclesfield Town before heading back to Crewe Alexandra in 2010.
He spent two years with the Railwaymen before Burton Albion snapped him up permanently in 2012.
What next?
The ex-midfielder played 101 games for the Brewers during his second stint and scored six goals before hanging up his boots in 2015.
He has since delved into the managerial world after starting out in Crewe Alexandra’s youth set-up as a coach.
Bell has shown good loyalty to his current team and has opted not to pursue the chance to move up a league with Burton Albion at this stage.
Crewe Alexandra are back in action on Friday at home to Colchester United.
