Nathan Jones issues fresh injury update on Charlton Athletic striker's recent setback

Charlton Athletic striker Miles Leaburn will miss this weekend’s clash with Huddersfield Town through injury, Nathan Jones has confirmed.
Charlton Athletic will be out to get back to winning ways up against Huddersfield Town this weekend. CAFC suffered a disappointing defeat to Peterborough United last Saturday while many others saw games called off through international call-ups.
Nathan Jones’ side were beaten 3-0 by the struggling Posh, who are way down the League One table but on an improved run of form.
The Addicks will be looking to bounce back straight away with a win over play-off rivals Huddersfield Town, but they won’t be able to call on the services of striker Miles Leaburn.
Speaking to the press ahead of the game, Charlton Athletic boss Jones confirmed that the academy graduate has picked up an injury and will not be available. The Addicks will be careful with the issue given his previous injury struggles.
“It’s not a matter of days with Miles, it’s a week’s one,” Jones said, as quoted by the club’s official website.
“He won’t be available for the weekend, which gives someone else an opportunity. We’ve got to manage Miles slightly different to other players because he’s young and he’s obviously had an injury before.
“We just want to be really careful with him and we won’t rush it.”
The Charlton Athletic boss later issued updates on Josh Edwards and Daniel Kanu too. The former will be assessed after taking part in ‘some training’ this week but the latter will likely require longer out with a patient approach taken by CAFC.
A smart approach
Charlton Athletic are right to be managing Leaburn carefully. The 21-year-old has had muscle injuries before so with a quad issue emerging, they will want to give him as much time to rest and recover as he needs before bringing him back into the fold.
Of course, there is a desire to see him back out on the pitch. The promising youngster has 10 goals and three assists to his name in 32 games this season and he would be a real asset for Jones to have available this weekend.
However, as the boss stresses, they must be wary with his reintroduction. In the meantime, there are other strikers for CAFC to call upon.
An important clash
Off the back of that poor Peterborough United performance and comfortable defeat, Charlton Athletic will be determined to bounce back here.
Three points could be big given Huddersfield Town are top six rivals, but it is needed for the sake of morale and momentum too.
Both are pivotal at this stage of the season and if the Addicks are to enter the play-offs, they will need spirits to be high and the wind in their sails if they’re to find success.
