Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has addressed increasing criticism as ‘slightly disrespectful’ amid their poor start to the 2024/25 campaign.

Bolton Wanderers came into the new season confident of launching another push for promotion after coming up short in the 2023/24 campaign.

It was another heartbreaking end for the Trotters’ charge for Championship football. They were beaten by Derby County and Portsmouth in the battle for the top two before beating beaten in the play-off final by Oxford United.

Despite such a disappointment, few saw their dismal early season form coming. From five games, they’ve won just once, that coming on the opening day against Leyton Orient.

Since then, Bolton Wanderers have gone for games without scoring, They reached a new low in a heavy 4-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town at the weekend, with some high-risk football proving their downfall as the Terriers cruised to a comfortable away win.

Such form after further promotion disappointment has seen some calling for a change in management, and Ian Evatt has now had his say on the growing criticism.

As quoted by The Bolton News, he admitted that he finds such calls as ‘slightly disrespectful’. Evatt highlighted what he has delivered in his time with Bolton Wanderers but revealed ‘conversations’ will be held over how to proceed.

“I find that hard to take, find it slightly disrespectful,” Evatt said.

“As I said, I have got one of the highest win ratios of any Bolton managers in history, back-to-back Wembley appearances in two years, a promotion, broken club record goals, but that is forgotten in football.

“It is five games in and I am no longer good at my job and it’s time to go, and that hurts.

“That is what I said about tarnishing my legacy here, I don’t want to do that.

“I think I have done too well, worked too hard, you know how hard I have worked to get this club and lift it up to where it has been, maybe not sat here right now, but where it was last season and in the summer and the reputation we have got throughout the leagues now. I have worked too hard to let that slip away.

“We will all go away and have some conversations and see what happens.”
