'The real deal' – Stockport County vs Leyton Orient prediction: The72

Stockport County and Leyton Orient clash in League One this weekend with the two sides enduring different starts to the campaign.
Stockport County have taken to life in League One brilliantly since lifting the League Two title at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Dave Challinor’s side remain unbeaten with three wins and two draws to their name in five games. After winning their first three ties without conceding, the Hatters have played out 1-1 draws with Crawley Town and Mansfield Town to leave themselves 5th in the table.
On Tuesday night, they comfortably dispatched of Everton’s U21s in the EFL Trophy.
As for Leyton Orient, it’s been quite the opposite for them in the early stages of the new season.
After finishing in mid-table last time around, Richie Welles’s side are enduring a tougher time of things this time around. They’ve taken just three points from the first five matches, leaving them 22nd at this early stage.
They faced Bolton Wanderers, Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic in the first three games, so they weren’t dealt an easy start. The Shrewsbury Town loss was more of a cause for concern but it will be hoped the 1-0 triumph over Reading last weekend can set Orient on the right path again.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“Stockport County are looking like a side to keep an eye out for in League One this season. However, newly promoted side can start on a high while spirits are up, then slip down to a more realistic position as the campaign progresses.
“That might not happen for the Hatters though, Challinor seems like the real deal and with players like Louie Barry, they’re capable of beating anyone.
“Leyton Orient will be a tougher opponent than their league position lets on though. They’ve had some tough fixtures and should be in higher spirits after their first win, but that said, I’m not sure they’ll find joy in another tough game here.
“I’ll back Stockport County to win.”
Prediction: Stockport County 2-0 Leyton Orient
Harry Mail
“Stockport County have adapted well to life in League One this season and will fancy their chances of picking up another three points here.
“The Hatters have recruited well and have some bright young talent on their books.
“The O’s make the trip to Edgeley Park on the back of their 3-1 loss to Brentford in the Carabao Cup. They won their last away game in the league 1-0 at Reading which should give them confidence of getting something against the Hatters.
“However, I can’t see past a home win here. The hosts are carrying momentum and are finding ways to pick up results.”
Prediction: Stockport County 2-1 Leyton Orient
