Norburn, 32, is out of contract at the end of June. He is due to become a free agent later this year as things stand.

Bruce has said, as per a report by the Blackpool Gazette: “He’s not had the best of 18 months since he’s been here. He’s a great pro and a great lad, so I wish him the best of luck.

“It’s frustrating to lose him, but he’s out of contract in the summer and he looked at the situation and thought he wasn’t first-choice – and I confirmed that to him. I didn’t want him to go, but he’s 32 and wants to play, which I understand totally.”

Asked whether he has played his last game, he said: “I would think so.”

The Latics have brought him in to add more experience into their youthful ranks and to give them something different in the middle of the park.

He joined Blackpool back in 2023 following their relegation from the Championship.

Norburn told the Seasiders’ website at the time: “There’s been previous interest from the Club and Head Coach before, so I’m absolutely delighted to be here.

Blackpool is somewhere I wanted to come before the Club showed their desire to bring me here, so it’s been a massive pull overall. I’m a northern lad as well, so it all seems to fit well.

“I like to class myself as a leader and I’ve got a big desire to do well here and play a part in getting this Club back where it should be.”

He played 39 matches during his first year with the Tangerines but has seen his game time dry up over recent times.

The ex-Grenada international has had spells in the past at Leicester CityBristol RoversPlymouth ArgyleTranmere RoversShrewsbury Town and Peterborough United.
