Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has strong interest from Genoa while Wrexham are also keeping tabs, TEAMtalk has claimed.
Leeds United are set to be active in the January transfer window with new players targeted and some fringe men likely to move on from Elland Road.
Speculation has been rife over potential departures from the Yorkshire giants and one player the subject of constant rumours has been striker Patrick Bamford.
The long-serving 31-year-old has dropped behind Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph in the pecking order and as a result, rumours of an exit have circulated. One could come to fruition in 2025 with his deal expiring in 2026.
Now, TEAMtalk claims two admirers of the Leeds United man are Wrexham and Genoa.
Serie A outfit Genoa are set to be active in January and are keeping a very close eye on Bamford’s situation at Elland Road ahead of a potential move, while highly-ambitious League One big spenders Wrexham are monitoring developments too.
The report adds Bamford is considering his options after telling manager Daniel Farke of his desire for more minutes and a sale could be sanctioned, but perhaps only if another striker comes through the doors at Elland Road beforehand.
A step too far?
Wrexham have shown just how ambitious they are in recent years. They’ve signed big names from higher leagues on several occasions, spending big money to do so.
However, it feels as though a move for Leeds United striker Bamford is a step too far.
The Grantham-born ace is on Premier League wages and is still a player far above League One level, despite his struggles to make an impact in the Championship this season.
Perhaps Bamford might be a more feasible addition for Wrexham next summer if they win promotion. For the time being though, you have to feel Genoa would have a far better chance of getting a deal done.
The striker situation
Leeds United currently have Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph vying for the starting spot in Farke’s side.
Bamford has mainly been third choice, having to settle for opportunities off the bench. Joe Gelhardt meanwhile has regularly missed out on matchday squads altogether, so he could be the first out the door in the striker department.
A new signing may pave the way for Bamford to head out too, with Genoa and Wrexham claimed to be among the potential destinations.
