Walsall boss Mat Sadler has said they will look into the free agent market following Oisin McEntee’s injury.

Walsall have the chance to bring in a temporary replacement through an unattached player, despite the transfer window shutting last week. They have nine points on the board so far this season and are 2nd in the table behind Gillingham.

McEntee, 23, will be out for a month with a hamstring injury. He has been with the Saddlers since 2022.

Sadler has said, as per the Express & Star: “There are a load of free agents out there and it would be amiss of me not to be looking. Ben Sadler and the chairman would back me if we felt that was the right thing to do. So we’ll see but we’re gutted to lose Oisin, be without Donervon (Daniels) and of course Priestley (Farquharson).”

Here is a look at three free agents who they could look at…

Whose stadium is this?

Anthony Stewart

The 31-year-old remains available following his exit from Aberdeen at the end of the last campaign. He is an experienced player in the Football League and has made just under 350 appearances to date.

The centre-back would give Walsall more competition and depth at the back and strong cover for McEntee. He has had spells in the past at Wycombe Wanderers, Crewe Alexandra and MK Dons.

Tim Eyoma

He has spent the past four years at Lincoln City but cut ties with the Imps in late June. The 24-year-old, who is an ex-England youth international, has since been weighing up his options in the game and still hasn’t found a new home.

Eyoma played 95 games dor the Imps in all competitions and chipped in with four goals from the back. He rose up through the academy at Tottenham Hotspur and played six times for their first-team as a youngster before heading to the LNER Stadium.

Josh Brooking

The 22-year-old could be a useful long-term option for Walsall and would fill their gap in defence. He rose up through the academy ranks at Reading.

Chelsea then lured him to Stamford Bridge back in 2018 and he has since been a regular for the Premier League outfit at various different youth levels. The Blues released him a couple of months ago and he needs to find a new team.
