Blackburn Rovers player's proposed exit in the balance with agreement yet to be struck
Today at 06:22 AM
Blackburn Rovers defender Kyle McFadzean’s proposed move to Chesterfield is ‘in the balance’ at the moment, as per a report by the Lancashire Telegraph.
Blackburn Rovers could cut ties with the centre-back this winter. His contract with Rovers expires at the end of the season and he is due to become a free agent in the summer as things stand.
McFadzean, 37, has made only three appearances in all competitions for John Eustace’s side so far this season, only one of which has come in the Championship. The Lancashire outfit have risen up to 5th in the table after their 3-0 win over Portsmouth on Wednesday night.
In this latest transfer update, the Lancashire Telegraph report ‘negotiations’ over a switch to Chesterfield are still ‘ongoing’ in regards to agreeing the finances of the deal. It remains to be seen at this stage whether an agreement will be reached with the Spirerites.
Blackburn Rovers update regarding Kyle McFadzean
McFadzean injects experience into Blackburn Rovers’ squad having played over 600 games in his career.
He will be a useful player to have in and around the dressing room.
However, he doesn’t get game time anymore and has been made surplus to requirements following Dion Sanderson’s arrival.
Letting the veteran go will help free up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for new arrivals.
McFadzean was handed a one-year deal last summer after initially joining in January. He told their website at the time: “I’m over the moon and I couldn’t wait to get the pen and sign. It’s been nice to be back out there with the lads and I’ve had a really nice welcome.
“It was on and off a few times, but I knew where I wanted to come back to. I had other offers, but I wanted to be back here with this team and with the gaffer. That was the main thing for me. It took a bit of time, but it’s happened now and I can’t wait to get started again.”
The Sheffield-born man has had spells in the past at Sheffield United, Crawley Town, MK Dons, Burton Albion and Coventry City.
What now?
Chesterfield want him but they haven’t been able to get a deal over the line yet.
If the Spirerites don’t get him, it would open the door to other teams.
Blackburn Rovers face Oxford United away this weekend.
