QPR fan favourite Albert Adomah left in the summer and has said his decision to join Walsall was a family-orientated one.

QPR had boyhood R’s fan Adomah on the books for almost four years.

The Ghanaian international represented the likes of Barnet, Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and more before he wound up at Loftus Road, and despite being a huge favourite in the Championship, he wasn’t adored anywhere else like he was in West London.

Adomah was a different player for QPR in comparison to his time as a wide livewire, but his character and leadership made him a hugely valuably player for his boyhood side. As such, it was an emotional farewell when he moved on in the summer.

Now, having landed closer to his home in the midlands with Walsall, the 36-year-old has opened up on the decision to join the League Two side.

On behalf of The72, Adomah spoke to Sky Bet about the family-orientated call to make the move to the Bescot Stadium after they became the first side to show interest in his services after moving on from QPR. He said:

“I wanted to be local.

“I was searching for a local club and Walsall was the first team that called and wanted me to come. It was more of a family decision to join the club because I wanted to be closer to home. They were the first team that called, and I came on trial for four days and the manager liked me from there.”

The right time

Adomah is in the latter stages of his career and having played all across the country during his time in the Championship, his departure from QPR provided him with the perfect chance to seek out a move where he could be closer to home.

Walsall offered him that, and he’s still getting good game time with the League Two side too.

The 19-time Ghana international has played 10 times across all competitions this season. Four starts have come in cup competitions with all six fourth-tier outings coming as a sub, but Adomah has still managed a goal and an assist in those games.

He’ll be eager to keep contributing with Walsall as his impressive EFL career continues.

Saddlers’ season so far

It’s been a strong campaign for Adomah and Walsall so far too. They’ve taken 15 points from seven games, winning five and losing two – those defeats were only narrow 1-0 losses too.

The form has them sat 3rd in the table at this early stage. It’s a great start to the campaign under Mat Sadler and it will be hoped this can continue in the coming weeks and months.

Up next is a home tie against Colchester United. Adomah will be hoping for a maiden league start for Walsall but if not, the ex-QPR star will be ready to impact from the bench again.
